Nestled 7kms past the head of Lake Ohau in the southern Alps of New Zealand lies Huxley Gorge Station, surrounded by snowed capped mountains, and glacier fed rivers. We are the last station in the Hopkins Valley.
Twizel and Omarama are located about 55 kms away each, they both have cafes, restaurants, petrol stations, and supermarkets. The Lake Ohau Lodge is about 20 minutes or 16 kms back down the road, they do lunch platters and evening dinning (bookings essential).
Please note..... from the 14th January 2020 till April 2020, (3 months) you will need a 4wd to access base, due to 2 bridge updates on our road. This will require you to Ford the Maitland River. There is a maintained Ford, however if there is a major weather event preventing you from crossing a full refund will be given. The best idea is to be in contact with us for up to date weather info before hand.
Note: The last 15kms or so to our property is on a gravel road. There is a small Ford to drive through which is very shallow and suitable for a town car.
You are off the grid with no WIFI or TV however there is limited phone reception on Spark.

Huxley Base is the last dwelling up the Hopkins Valley.
It consists of 4 separate buildings; a main kitchen/living room with log burner and three separate bedrooms. There is also plenty of room to pitch tents on a grassed area.
A lot of it has been renovated so there is flush toilets, a shower, solar powered lighting, hot water and gas hobs and BBQ for cooking.
**Please leave Huxley base as you found it, thoroughly cleaned and tidy ready for the next group. We are a busy family of 5 with other accommodation and the farm to run, we can not always get up there to check, failing this will result in a cleaning fee.
**You will need to bring all your own bedding. Pillows are provided though.
**You will need to bring food for the entire stay as the closest supermarket is 55kms away. There is no fridge or freezer so bring your chilly bins too.
