What we love about this property
Art themed B&B on the outskirts of Matamata. Surrounded by farmland with a thriving cafe & restaurant scene just 10 minutes away.

Denise & Bruce describe themselves as "people people" with a genuine love of art and travel. Denise enjoyed a long career in the travel industry, before opening an Art Gallery, and Bruce has lived and worked in the Middle East, UK & Botswana, and now operates a travel company. For 11 years they owned and operated Bryce Gallery in Christchurch, where they featured works by Canterbury, New Zealand & international artists. The gallery held regular exhibitions promoting emerging, established and investment artists to Cantabrians, ex-pats and tourists alike.
After the turmoil of living and owning a business through the Canterbury Quake years of 2010-11, Denise & Bruce sought a change of direction. They wanted to exchange city living for small town New Zealand and spent some 18 months visiting various towns in the North Island before they discovered Matamata late in 2015. With the decison made, they returned to Christchurch to sell their house and business, relocating to Matamata in February 2016 to establish their fabulous art themed B&B. Roxy, their black cat also lives there where she has quickly adapted to being a country cat!
