Seemingly miles from anywhere, but in reality, a short distance from several towns and cities, our gorgeous Village has been built to provide relaxation, a space for deep thinking, story writing and memory-making. Bring your own mountain bikes and enjoy kms of forestry road tracks or perhaps pack your hiking day-pack and we can either guide or direct you to local walks. Or bring your current book and spend your weekend, reading and relaxing. Yoga with the early rising sun and dawn chorus of birds is unbeatable.
If it's more that you are looking for, we are able to provide a range of adventure activities from high-ropes to our amazing zip line. (By prior arrangement.)
Tucked away, just 10 minutes meander from your whare, is the 'bush hut' - where campfires and marshmallows are found, giant native eels can be handfed on the banks of our very own, Makahika Stream. If it's something completely out of the box you're seeking, our highly experienced bushcraft instructors can deliver several hours of 'tracking and sign awareness' or perhaps a couple of hours of 'survival training' might add challenge to your world; and at days end, having survived and thrived, wander back to Arete for a hot shower, evening nibbles and drinks around the fire, completing your day with a stunning meal. With a deep-sleep to follow, in your luxury whare.
The wildlife is fantastic with a couple of resident stags, lots of pheasants, and stunning kereru and tui drifting about the valley. Should you really want to ramp up the adventure, we will arrange off-site hunting trips either by helicopter or with a guide on foot.
Sally loves to cook and will provide your beautiful meals while at Arete. All dietary needs can be catered for (pre-arrangement required for special needs). Bring your own wine; we'll even let you know what the menu is if you'd like to match your wine.
