Beach Bach

The Beach Cottage - Matira, Waikato
DIRECT BEACH ACCESS | DIGITAL DETOX

Show on Map
Sleeps up to 7
From $175 tonight

We know it's a little cold out there

Winter stays at our place can be quite invigorating and good for the soul; with the combination of fresh clean air, a digital detox and the good climb back up from the beach.
The place is quite small so the open fire (dry wood & pine cones available) warms up most of the cottage well.
Watch the elements with ocean views from each room when the weather isn't great, or just snuggle up beside the fire with a book or board games (both available for use), after you have put a roast or similar in the oven .... bliss.
WINTER STAY SPECIAL
A complimentary Central Otago Pinot Noir waiting for you.
Exclusive to Off the Beaten Track
Enjoy the Isolation, peace and quiet (well except for the birds, stock and other wildlife), beautiful views and private beach access.
Take the chance to get back to nature, with no TV, wifi or cellphones, and explore the many different areas on foot.

Highlights

Walk, run, surf or fish on 5km unpopulated beach
Farm walks
Playing in sand dunes

Waikorea Beach is located between Raglan and Port Waikato on the West Coast of New Zealand's North Island.

The Beach Cottage is a 2 bedroom "Bach" overlooking the beach, every room has an amazing view. The Cottage is on a 1500 acre sheep and cattle farm.

Staying at the cottage gives you the opportunity to escape the madness of daily life & either sit back and enjoy the views or get in amongst it, whether this be;
- long farm or beach walks
- fishing (surfcasting, longlining or off Split Rock)
- sliding down sand dunes
- bird watching (NZ Dotterels)
- exploring archaeological sites
- or, taking your own horse for a stroll down the beach at low tide.

Access to the beach about 300m down a pedestrian/Quad bike access route, it is quite steep in places and unfortunately is not suitable for wheelchairs or baby buggies. A good level of fitness is required.

BRINGING YOUR ANIMALS
- Horses are fine, but we suggest you bring electric fence standards & tape.
- Well behaved dogs are also welcome (dogs chasing farm animals will not be tolerated). Also there are a few dotterels on a piece of the beach (easily avoided) which I’m keen to keep dogs away from. Beach is about 5km long so lots of space without hassling dotterels in their 150m stretch - info on location of dotterels is in folder at cottage. Section is fully fenced. Chasing of possums in the flax is fine!

Reviews

Just a fine weekend to go fishing off the rock. Great sleep and good to relax before life gets crazy again - thank you.

Lovely break in ideal location. Fish aplenty!

Fantastic spot, great get away for the weekend would definitely be back in the future ... thank you Lisa.

Eating and Drinking

The Cottage has good water from a Natural spring, gas powered hot water (lots of hot water!), flush toilet, and a full kitchen with oven, fridge/freezer, microwave, etc (BYO sharp knives).

While most people get to the Cottage and never want to leave just down the road (20mins) is the Nikau Caves & Cafe (www.nikaucave.co.nz), they do great coffee and homemade food in an amazing setting.

There is also a good walk to a waterfall fall from the cafe and of course the Caves themselves which some say are better than Waitomo - bring your old clothes for that!

About your host, Lisa

We look forward to sharing our piece of paradise with you.
