Like all good ideas, Off The Beaten Track began with determining a need and was also inspired by watching an episode of Country Calendar.
That particular episode featured a farming family living on a beautiful farm with both ocean and river frontage’s. Their farm offered privacy, views and experiences seldom seen commercially, with the reality that the only people able to enjoy this was the family themselves.
As dairy farmers themselves, Michele & Roy were personally aware of the hardship that many farmers were experiencing with the recent dairy downturn, and the idea of sharing private land offering unique experiences in undiscovered locations, whilst being able to diversify farmer’s income was borne.
Michele also owns Classic Events, an event company running both commercial and not for profit events, with a key event being the nationwide NZ Motorhome, Caravan & Leisure Shows , linking them in with the outdoor and leisure industry. Because of the events they run, they work closely with regional councils and RTO’s and had been looking at ways to capture the growing tourism market and at the same time celebrate the paradise that is the country we live in.
Early research culminated in both landowner and holidaymaker interest exceeded expectation, and Off The Beaten Track became a reality.
It is our desire that we can share the paradise we live in, make it economical for landowners, and offer an exciting alternative for holidaymakers.
The vision for Off the Beaten Track is:
Connecting holidaymakers with a taste of authentic rural New Zealand that’s delivered through undiscovered locations and experiences that are privately owned.
Quite simply, New Zealand is too beautiful not to share!
