About your host, Elisabeth

Elisabeth's Photo

I'm Liz Cowan and my husband Evan and I have lived here at “Kamahi” since 1981. We returned to the Cowan family sheep and beef farm in 1976 after meeting at university and travelling. The plan was to come “home” for one year, but we ended up staying! Until June 2006, Evan managed the home farm developed by his father Arthur in the late 1940’s and early 1950’s. Now the third generation is actively involved – our daughter & son-in-law farm the property and Evan is the honorary maintenance manager and hired hand. Evan’s parents (Arthur & Pat Cowan) lived in the original homestead a short distance away and were very active in the conservation of our native forests. (Arthur passed away in November, 2014 and Pat in August, 2016 – we miss them….) The 1120 acre (470 hectare) home farm has several hundred acres of carefully preserved native NZ forest and many beautiful walks with great views of the surrounding area. You are most welcome to explore at your leisure or take a conducted “farm tour” with Evan as your guide. Enjoy our large garden. (We also have BBQ facilities, if you’d like to do some outdoor cooking).
