A warm welcome awaits you when you stay at our comfortable, newly constructed, fully off-grid, eco home near Garston in Northern Southland.
Set on 10 acres of gently rolling farmland, with stunning 360 degree views of mountains, a river valley, and big skies. We are a scenic 45 minutes drive south of Queenstown, but a world away. The house is wrapped around a sheltered courtyard, with shaded decks for your comfort and excellent indoor-outdoor living. Take a wander around the property, or go for a short walk down to the world class trout fishing Mataura River where you can dip your toes in the refreshingly cool water. We are also on Nevis Road which is a popular bike packing route, including the Sounds to Sounds Brevet and the Great Southern Brevet. We are also near other popular cycle routes that pass through Garston.
About your host, Mary
We live in a beautiful part of New Zealand and want to share our love of the alpine environment with others. We are passionate about good quality, low energy affordable housing and living sustainably. We bought our land as a paddock in 2016 and have been planting fruit trees, firewood lots, and native trees on the property since then. The vege garden is a work in progress.

Our Piwakawaka room is a twin room with two King Single beds. These can be zipped together to make a Super-king bed with a mattress topper to make it super comfortable. The spacious room also has a comfy leather couch, coffee table, and ensuite bathroom. Quiet and comfortable, there are peaceful views towards hills as well as into the courtyard. Outside is a private deck with furniture and direct access to the sheltered courtyard.
