This is a fantastic spot from which to explore the upper Retaruke Valley. Ruth and Miles were great hosts and the chalet was very comfortable for myself and young son. The river has swimming, tubing and fishing options and there are some great walks in and around the farm. A little gem.

We had an amazing family get together holiday over New Year! What a special amazing location! An undiscovered part of New Zealand, but certainly one of our favourites over the 15 years we have lived here. The house is comfortable, with nice views over the valley towards the river, enough space for all of us (8 adults and a baby on the way). Enough space to play outside games and a swimhole just below the home ! We celebrated our Dutch style New Year here, baked our traditional oliebollen under the carport, and started the New Year with a bonfire at the river, how special is that? We did some walks on the farm, through sheep paddocks and along the river, to the private hidden swim hole at the end. Went to do the Tongariro crossing too from here, very easy to get there. So very, very beautiful, peaceful and away from it all! Thanks for having us stay!

About your host, Ruth
Hi, my name is Ruth Abernethy. I am married to Miles, and we have four sons, two of whom still live at home. We live at Papaiti Station part time, as we also have farming interests in Taihape. We absolutely love our Kaitieke farm, it always feels like a holiday when we are here, which is tricky given we still need to get the work done. We have a permanent farm worker on site who takes care of the day to day running of the farm.
Papaiti is a really special place, and I look forward to welcoming guests here so they too can experience the serenity and all that Papaiti has to offer.
